Olivier Giroud was in remarkable form against Sevilla on Wednesday night, as Chelsea got a 4-0 victory against the Spanish side to go three points ahead of their closest rival in the Champions League Group E.
All four goals came from the Frenchman Olivier Giroud, as he reminded Frank Lampard of his qualities yet again.
After Wednesday’s performance, former Chelsea defender Jason Cundy has said that, what happened last season will happen again this term.
Last season, Giroud was third choice striker behind Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi, but rose his way to being number one striker at the end of the campaign.
It has started in like manner this season, as the Frenchman started the season behind Timo Werner and Tammy Abraham.
Jason Cundy believes that Giroud will usurp Tammy Abraham yet again this season.
“Tammy’s still very much in the infancy of his career… What happened last year, it kind of feels as though something similar is happening again,” Cundy told talkSPORT.
“Last season Tammy had the number nine shirt and actually he did very well, scored a lot of goals. Started the season really, really well. But as the season drew on Giroud forced his way into that team because of his performances, his goals. I just wonder if we might be seeing something again.”
