It’s a rare start to work harder than a Marcelo Bielsa side, and Chelsea were the first team to achieve that feat in the Premier League this season.
The Blues worked harder than their opponents and fought hard to get a 3-1 win at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Speaking after the game, Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa was full of praise for Chelsea’s game play and took out time to hail N’Golo Kante for his performance.
“We failed to neutralise them from set-pieces and at the end it was important,” Bielsa told reporters.
“It was difficult for us to stop them playing out from the back with their centre-backs and N’Golo Kante.
“The difficulty for us was we didn’t manage to take the ball off them in their own half.”
Leeds striker Patrick Bamford was particularly surprised that Chelsea worked harder than them, as he admitted that facing Chelsea was even more difficult than Liverpool and Manchester City.
“We nit-pick everything really. Our physical stats weren’t bad but Chelsea really outperformed what they’ve done the rest of the season, in terms of physically,” Bamford told The Athletic’s Ornstein & Chapman Podcast.
“Then obviously we know about Chelsea how good they are. I think that’s probably the best team we’ve played this year.”
Hopefully, Chelsea will continue such fine performance this weekend against Everton at the Goodison Park.
