Chelsea were able to seal the signing of Kai Havertz during the summer transfer window, as the Blues had to pay around £71m for his signature.
Antonio Rudiger was known for the role he played in ensuring that the club signed Kai Havertz, but Kai has revealed how another Chelsea player was constantly asking him to sign up for the club.
Werner initially signed up for the club as early as June, but Havertz deal was only sealed in September.
Havertz has revealed how Werner messaged him almost every day to sign for Chelsea.
Asked whether it helped having Werner at Chelsea before his move to west London, Havertz said: “It helped a lot. We know each other well from the national team.
“We’ve always been big friends. When I got the news that he would change [clubs] of course we messaged like every day. ‘He always said to me, “come, come [to Chelsea]!” It was like every day.
“Of course it’s easier for me to have some German-speaking players here. We have Timo, Toni Rudiger and Pulisic and Kovacic can also speak German which is good for me.
“But I can speak English as well so I have a good relationship with every player but of course me and Timo are big friends and it was very important for me that he made the step and I made it too.”
Havertz also revealed that he is happy to be at the club and he has a good relationship with Werner.
Asked about his connection with Werner, on and off the pitch, Havertz added to Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “We’re really happy to be here.
“It’s a funny connection, we are friends and have a lot of fun. On the pitch it’s also very good because we’ve played together often. ‘We have a good connection on and off the pitch.”
