34-year-old Olivier Giroud has forced himself back into Frank Lampard’s starting team, after a four goal heroic against Sevilla.
Giroud had helped Chelsea after coming on as a sub in the 2-1 win over Rennes, scoring a stoppage time goal for the Blues. He stepped it up with four goals in the 4-0 win against Sevilla.
Against Leeds, the World Cup winner scored the leveller as Chelsea went on to beat Marcelo Bielsa’s side 3-1.
Lampard was pleased with his performance and hailed the striker after the game.
“His performance was great, off the back of the Seville performance,” Lampard said.
“He’s a reference for us as a front man, and when balls come into the area he has the ability to be cool and clinical with his finishing, although to be fair he might have had two or three more goals today.
“People will always question me about who I play up front because I have options. When Oli is there I know I can rely on him and today he was huge.”
