Mason Mount and Declan Rice are childhood friends, right from their days in the Chelsea academy.

Although, Rice didn’t make it at the Chelsea academy, after being released at age 14, Mount came through at the club and is now a regular under Frank Lampard.

The two young midfielders will put their friendship aside for the derby game at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, and Chelsea boss Frank Lampard believes that they will give their all in this game.

Lampard said: “It’s healthy, it’s good. The competitive nature will come out when you play against your friends.

“Those personal battles generate an extra level of competition between Mason and Declan individually – and that’s fine. That’s how it should be.

“I don’t know Declan that well but they’re both young, hungry boys, who want to do well for their team. We’ll see.”

It will be interesting to see who wins the midfield battle between the duo later at the Bridge tonight.
