Chelsea centre-back Thiago Silva scored Chelsea’s first goal as the Blues beat West Ham 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.
The Brazilian defender headed home from a Mason Mount corner to put Chelsea in front just after 10 minutes.
Silva’s goal against West Ham means Chelsea have scored more goals from corners than any other team in the Premier League this season (8), with three of these goals being headers from Mason Mount assists.
Speaking after the defeat to Chelsea, West Ham boss David Moyes admitted that he was aware of Chelsea’s threat from corner-kicks, and they even prepared to stop Chelsea from scoring from a corner-kick.
Moyes said: “They’re a threat, they’ve got some power. We knew about it, we tried to prepare correctly for it, but we got caught out early.
“We didn’t work their goalkeeper enough tonight but we’re playing a good team. I thought the players did very well on the ball, but ultimately the game is about scoring in their goal and keeping the ball out of our goal and we didn’t do that.”
