According to Manchester United legend Gary Neville, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard deserves credit for his gameplan against Tottenham Hotspur at Stamford Bridge after Arsenal were caught twice by Tottenham’s counterattacks.
Arsenal dominated possession but Spurs soaked up the pressure and hit them on the counter-attack twice through Heung-min Son and Harry Kane to lead 2-0 at half-time.
Lampard received some criticism for not being more attack-minded against Tottenham Hotspur but Neville believes Chelsea were wise to Spurs’ strengths while Arsenal showed naivety which ultimately cost them dearly.
“What you can start to do is give Frank Lampard a little bit of credit for what he did last week for not falling,” Neville told Sky Sports.
“I know what you’re saying, Jamie [Redknapp], but they [Arsenal] did over commit in those two moments.
“They’ve been beaten in the way they were always going to be beaten.
“Chelsea last week didn’t fall for it and in the end, they had a couple of chances.”
