Chelsea started the season with three experienced left-backs in Ben Chilwell, Emerson Palmieri and Marcos Alonso. Considering also that Cesar Azpilicueta can play in that role means Frank Lampard’s side is overloaded at left-back.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are currently left with two natural left-backs following the injury to Chilwell, and the 24-year-old may well be out of action until January.
However, despite Chilwell’s injury, the Blues are still keen to offload Alonso in January. Chelsea would listen to offers for Alonso, either for a loan or a permanent deal, during a January transfer window as the club will try to get some unnecessary wage bills off their purse.
Also, Chelsea manager Frank has ruled out fullbacks Ben Chilwell and Reece James, with winger Hakim Ziyech for Boxing Day’s clash against Arsenal.
“They are both doubtful,” reported Lampard.
“I can’t give you an answer at the moment. I’m not sure if they will be fit for either game.
“Hakim Ziyech won’t be fit for Arsenal.”
