AC Milan director Paolo Maldini has hailed Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori as a perfect match for the Italian club.
Maldini also expects Tomori to sign for the Italian club soon after he revealed they are working on the final details.
Maldini has told Italian TV: “He’s perfect for our squad, we’re working on the last details.”
“We wanted Fikayo Tomori also last summer,” Maldini told Sky Sports Italia.
“He’s always been one of our targets. He’s perfect for our squad – we’re working on the last details.”
Tomori is expected to join AC Milan on loan this week with the Italians having the option to sign him permanently for €30 million.
A loan deal would be beneficial for the England defender, who has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge this season.
Tomori is fifth choice centre-back at Chelsea behind Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma, Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen and has made just four appearances for the Blues this season.
Despite AC Milan having the option to sign Tomori permanently, Chelsea boss Frank Lampard insists the England defender still has a long-term future at Chelsea.
Lampard said: “He absolutely has a long-term future at this club and we will see if and when he goes out on loan.
“The moment I got close with Fikayo is when I took him on loan to Derby and he was the player of the year and one of the best players in the Championship that year.
“He came back last year, played 20 plus games for us at a young age and then got in the England squad.”
