Chelsea might have signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes during the summer transfer window, but feelers from the club hint that the Blues may still be in search of a world-class goalkeeper if the opportunity arises.
Chelsea have had great goalkeepers in the past from Carlo Cudicini to Petr Cech and Thibaut Courtois, but the £72m signing of Kepa Arrizabalaga didn’t really work out. Mendy seemed to have started on the high but his recent performances have not been above average.
Meanwhile, long-term Chelsea target, AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, may be available for free at the end of the season, and Chelsea are still being linked with the young Italian.
AC Milan legend Paolo Maldini is keen for the club to keep hold of the 21-year-old who is now seen as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
“It is certainly Milan’s duty to try and keep hold of an important player like Gigio, for what he represents as a symbol, a player who came up through our youth academy and, in my humble opinion, because he is the best goalkeeper in the world,” Maldini told DAZN last year.
