Mason Mount is not the most loved Chelsea player out there, but the academy product has been one of Chelsea’s best players since breaking into the Chelsea first team last season.
Surprisingly, Mount has been getting sticks from some Chelsea fans, with many believing that the young midfielder is excessively favoured by Frank Lampard.
However, it was the 22-year-old who came to the rescue for Chelsea in the 1-0 win against Fulham, and he put in a really good performance overall.
In the player ratings done by Adam Newson on Football.London, Newson couldn’t understand why Chelsea fans won’t appreciate Mount.
He wrote: “Like Silva, Mount was shifted over to the right side of the team but there was no drop off in his performance level. How can some Chelsea fans not appreciate the 22-year-old?
“He produced a couple of neat touches early on to fashion a chance for Olivier Giroud and then rattled the crossbar. At half time, no player had created more opportunities or completed more take ons than Mount.
“In the second period, he continued to show for the ball and continued to make runs in behind. There was also a lovely turn on Ola Aina to open space in the penalty area for a cross that was blocked.
“And with Chelsea struggling to make the breakthrough, Mount stepped up. He was on hand to fire home from inside the area and helped the Blue see out the game as part of a midfield two. A man-of-the-match display.”
