Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner were expected to be the front three that will lead the line for Chelsea this season. However, injury and fitness issues have prevented them from playing together.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard used a rare opportunity to pair the trio against Manchester City, but it didn’t work out, as they looked like they lacked the understanding to forge anything nice in attack.
However, Lampard has maintained that he will give the trio a sustained run in the team until they pick up form.
“As a threesome [Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech], yes, I like that but also Tammy and Oli have given us a lot this season as well,” Lampard said.
This may be a nice move in the right direction for Chelsea, considering that it doesn’t just take one game for three players to get their acts together, with a lack of form and fitness issues partly to blame.
The attacking combination of Pulisic, Werner and Ziyech came up against a Manchester City side that have the best defence in the league so far this season, and their team shape against Chelsea countered any presupposed plans from the gaffer. But with a sustained run against a lesser team, they may pick up that form and confidence that Chelsea truly need.
