New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel fielded youngster Callum Hudson-Odoi in a surprising right wing-back role, and the 20-year-old was ready for the occasion.
Hudson-Odoi’s game was pleasing and he was Chelsea’s best player on the pitch. He looked lively whenever he had the ball and always seemed to make things happen.
Tuchel admitted after the game that he was impressed with Hudson-Odoi’s performance, as he hailed not only his attacking qualities but his desire to track back and help with the defence.
Asked about Callum Hudson-Odoi’s performance, Tuchel said: “Dribbling, runs, one on ones, intensity – defensively he had to help in a back five, we didn’t want to suffer too much in their ball in possession.
“Callum was the key on the side with his speed and confidence.”
Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand was also pleased with the young winger’s performance and singled him out for praise.
