Chelsea had gone from being unbeaten in 17 games in all competitions, to winning just once in the last six games.
Losing 3-1 to Manchester City on January 3 all but spilled the cooking pot over for Frank Lampard. Since then, there have been talks of a sack threat and reminders of how impatience is the name of the game in modern football.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is known to roll out the sack letters in situations like this, but is keen to cut the Chelsea legend some slack, for now at least.
Former Liverpool star Craig Burley doesn’t see any reason why people should call for Frank Lampard’s head yet.
He said on ESPN: “Who with any brains is going to be calling for Frank’s head?”
Meanwhile, Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola is adamant his former team-mate, Frank Lampard, can turn the situation around at Chelsea despite the club’s miserable run of results over the winter period.
I believe all is not lost yet, Lampard can still turns things around, but he needs to apply his focus and tactician skills, come up with right combination of players. There’s a reason why Chelsea went 17 games unbeaten, so it’s not far fetched that it can be made right and get back to winning ways
