Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola is no stranger to new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel, during their time in the German Bundesliga.

Tuchel’s Borussia Dortmund side rivalled Bayern in the Bundesliga in the 2015-16 season, with Bayern eventually lifting the league title.

Guardiola has now backed Tuchel to be a success at Chelsea and he believes that the 47-year-old will do a good job, and is looking forward to facing him when Chelsea and Manchester City play next, which will be in May, except the two teams meet in a cup competition.

“Welcome. He’s an exceptional manager,” said Guardiola.

“I’m pretty sure he will have success. Happy to see him here in this country. ‘When I was at Bayern Munich I played against him at Mainz.

“At the last season at Dortmund he did an incredible job, the way Dortmund played was outstanding. We fought a lot as Bayern Munich to win that title.

“He’s a friend of mine and I’m happy to see him.”
