Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen sustained a knee injury in Chelsea’s 1-1 draw with Aston Villa and the club fear that the 24-year-old defender could be set for a prolonged period on the sidelines.
Christensen is Lampard’s fourth choice centre-back at the moment, as he’s currently behind Thiago Silva, Kurt Zouma and Antonio Rudiger.
Meanwhile, Fikayo Tomori who’s fifth choice in the centre-back list was set for a loan spell in the January transfer window, but could now remain at the club following Christensen’s injury.
The likes of Leeds United and Newcastle are believed to be keen on Tomori, but Chelsea will want to know the state of Christensen before an exit will be confirmed.
Tomori himself is keen for playing time away from Stamford Bridge, as he has only made one appearance in the Premier League this season, compared to last season’s appearance of 23.
