According to reports, Ben Chilwell was the only player wanted by Frank Lampard among all the signings made by the club last summer.
Chelsea spent over £200million to bring Timo Werner, Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech, Edouard Mendy and Chilwell to the club while Thiago Silva arrived as a free agent.
According to The Athletic, Lampard saw Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the player he needed to strengthen Chelsea’s attack.
The Chelsea legend pushed the club to sign the sign the Arsenal striker before he finally extended his Arsenal contract.
Marina Granovskaia already had her sights on signing Werner from RB Leipzig and wasn’t interested in pushing for Aubameyang.
The Athletic also claimed club bosses refused to sanction a move for Burnley centre-back James Tarkowski, who Lampard wanted to strengthen the defence.
The club instead signed Thiago Silva on a free transfer after the Brazilian left French club Paris Saint-Germain.
Another player Lampard wanted was West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, who he saw as the ideal player to protect Chelsea’s defence but the board were unwilling to pay £80million for a player released by the club when he was 14.
