Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard was so keen on signing West Ham midfielder Declan Rice that he was willing to sell as many as five Chelsea players to fund the move.
According to The Telegraph, Lampard was so determined to bring Rice back to Chelsea that he was willing to approve the sales of five first-team players in order to meet West Ham’s £80 million valuation.
The report claims Lampard wanted Chelsea to sell Mateo Kovacic, Jorginho, who was wanted by Arsenal, Antonio Rudiger, Marcos Alonso and Kepa Arrizabalaga to fund a move for Rice.
The report also claims that Lampard’s insistence on signing Declan Rice, who was released by Chelsea at the age of 14, annoyed Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia and some other members of the Chelsea board.
Following Lampard’s departure as Chelsea boss on Monday, the board are not planning a move for Rice.
