The 36-year-old has been a key player for Chelsea so far this season and has proven to be a shrewd signing.

Chelsea put off a bad showing in the first half against Manchester City, but the Blues gave a good performance in the second half, but it was already too late by then.

Thiago Silva has now revealed how Frank Lampard motivated the boys at half-time and has vowed that Chelsea will work hard to turn things around.

The Brazilian said: “It was a positive message, to go back out there and try to play more. He gave confidence to the team after a complicated first half.

“I think we played a better second half and because of that we scored in the last minute. If we had done that earlier in the second half it would have been a different match.

‘The coach always keeps us positive. Of course it’s a difficult period for us because we are not winning, but it’s necessary to continue working and be prepared for the next match when it arrives.”
