New Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has explained why he benched Mason Mount for the goalless draw against Wolves.

Asked about his early snub of Mount and Gilmour and whether that decision suggests anything about their futures at the club, Tuchel said: “I wanted to take the weight off their shoulders.

“When I told them, they were absolutely sure they can handle the wait. I have no trusts issued but I wanted to give the responsibility in this special moment to a bit more experienced players.

“There is nothing to worry about, I like what I see from Mason, from his personality which is amazing, such a nice guy, such a talent.

“He leaves his heart on the pitch. He cares for Chelsea 100% and he gives everything every time he plays. I’m very, very happy to have him around and I will not stop pushing him and guiding him and trusting him.”
