Chelsea skipper Cesar Azpilicueta will again face Luis Suarez, whom he knows very well from his time at Liverpool and also faced him when he was at Barcelona.
Suarez has proven to be a top striker wherever he has played, and since moving to Atletico Madrid ahead of the 2020-21 season, Suarez has continued his extraordinary form.
16 goals in 20 league games is no mean feat for a 34-year-old, and the Chelsea defence will have to be at their best to keep him in check over the two legs in the Champions League second round double leg.
Azpilicueta has now urged his side to come together and defend against Suarez, as he insists it must be a collective effort.
“The best way to defend against him is to keep him as far as possible from the goal and that’s a collective job,” said the Chelsea skipper.
“I faced him when he was at Liverpool and Barcelona in the Champions League so I know he’s a great striker.
“We know his numbers and we know wherever he has played, he has scored lots of goals so we have to try to defend against him together and keep all their attacking players away from our goal.”
