RB Leipzig’s defender Dayot Upamecano is widely regarded as one of the finest young defenders in Europe, and the 22-year-old is a top target for the Blues. However, Chelsea face intense competition for the young defender.

Reports claim that Chelsea may have now turned attention to Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule as an alternative.

German publication Sport Bild, has now reported that Thomas Tuchel’s side have initiated discussions with Upamecano’s representatives.

Bayern Munich head coach Hansi Flick was pleased that other clubs are interested in his player, but stylishly brushed aside the rumours.

Asked directly about Sport Bild’s story at his press conference on Wednesday, Flick replied: “It is of course also nice for us when other clubs are interested in our players.

“At the moment, the defence is doing very well and Niklas is definitely an option, both in central defence and as a full-back.”
