Three Chelsea big names were absent from the squad that played a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday afternoon.
Thiago Silva, Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic weren’t part of the Chelsea squad, with summer signings Thiago Silva and Kai Havertz having been absent from the squad for quite a while.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is disappointed that veteran defender Thiago Silva won’t be available to face Atletico Madrid, but is pleased to have Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic back to the squad.
“This is a game that is certainly made for someone of Thiago’s quality but unfortunately he is not available,” said Tuchel ahead of facing Atletico on Tuesday night.
“He is training right now, while we are leaving shortly.
“I’m very happy that both Kai and Christian are in the group. They trained with us earlier and had no complaints. They will travel with us and they are in the squad for tomorrow.”
