With the transfer window set to shut close today, a Chelsea player has left the club on loan.
Premier League side Brighton has signed 20 year old Chelsea defender Jack Wakely on loan until the end of the season.
The 20-year-old was in no danger of troubling the first team at Stamford Bridge, despite being a regular across Chelsea’s youth sides in recent years and earning himself a new contract last year which runs until the summer of 2021.
The surprising part of his loan deal is that the 20 year old defender won’t play for Brighton’s first team but their U23 side.
Brighton head of academy John Morling said: “We wanted to bring an extra option at the centre of defence, and we are delighted Jack has agreed to join until the end of the season.
“He will give us that additional competition in that area of the pitch, and over the coming months we can work with Jack and get to know him.”
