Chelsea have been handed a boost in the pursuit of Bayern Munich defender Niklas Sule following recent comments from the CEO of the German club Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
According to Rummenigge, Bayern Munich will only extend Sule’s contract if they can ‘find a solution’ to their financial difficulty following the Covid pandemic.
Sule has just under 18 months left on his contract at Bayern and has been linked with a move to Chelsea as Thomas Tuchel plans to purchase a commanding centre back in the summer transfer window.
“We want the good German national team players at FC Bayern. Niklas still has one year of the contract,” the Bayern chief told ZDF.
“We will hold talks and see where they’ll lead. We will look at the whole thing seriously & calmly by the summer.
“Corona (Covid-19 pandemic) has also caused financial damage to FC Bayern.
“If we find a solution, we are happy to extend the contract, but that will only be possible under certain conditions.”
