No opposition player has penetrated Chelsea’s defence so far under Thomas Tuchel, and the only player to have done that so far under the new boss is Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger, who scored an own goal in the 2-1 victory over Sheffield United.
Speaking after the 2-0 win against Newcastle, former Chelsea defender Frank Leboeuf admitted that he was pleased with the team’s defending. However, he also stated that the team is yet to get their offensive act together, and doesn’t seem to be carried away with Chelsea’s recent form under Tuchel.
Leboeuf told ESPN after the Newcastle game: “I’m very comfortable with the defensive aspect of the Chelsea game, but I’m still wondering sometimes what they do offensively.
“The last passes are sometimes too slow and soft, they don’t make the right decisions.
“But it’s not due to Tuchel, it’s maybe due to the players’ not being confident enough.
“They [have been doing] what they have to do well, but they [have yet] to convince me that they’re back.”
