It’s so easy to forget that Davide Zappacosta is still a Chelsea player, as the 28-year-old has since left the club in 2017.

Signed by Antonio Conte, Zappacosta was fairly used by the Italian when he was in charge of the club, but had no space in the team under Maurizio Sarri, and thus had to leave on loan to Roma in 2019.

His 6-month loan spell with Roma didn’t work out as he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury during training that kept him out of action for almost a year.

Zappacosta, who’s still a Chelsea player, joined Genoa just before the start of the new season, and he’s doing well at the club. He scored a goal on his league debut as Genoa beat Crotone 4–1 at home.

The Chelsea loanee would then contract coronavirus and has since recovered from it, and has played ten in a row for Genoa, starting the last eight games.

Zappacosta is indeed pleased with how his career has gotten back on track.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Inside Futbol: “Two years ago, at Chelsea I had little space and last year in Rome I had a cruciate injury. I wanted to get back into the game and I found the ideal destination in Genoa.”

“The reality is that I am finally training well, with consistency. I demand a lot from myself and I am not satisfied, never. I want to give even more.”

Zappacosta currently plays as a right wing-back in a 3-5-2 formation, under new boss Davide Ballardini who came in for Rolando Maran out. Since then, Genoa have enjoyed a fine run of form, with five wins in their last ten games, and just two defeats in between.

According to Secolo XIX via Football Italia, Zappacosta said: “Two years ago, at Chelsea I had little space and last year in Rome I had a cruciate injury. I wanted to get back into the game and I found the ideal destination in Genoa.”

“The reality is that I am finally training well, with consistency. I demand a lot from myself and I am not satisfied, never. I want to give even more.”

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
