At the time of Thomas Tuchel’s appointment, Chelsea were 9th in the Premier League, and the new boss was given the task of taking Chelsea back to a Champions League spot.

Following the 2-0 victory over Newcastle at Stamford Bridge on Monday night, Chelsea leaped above Liverpool into fourth place.

Indeed, it has been a stunning spell so far for Chelsea under Tuchel, as the German gaffer is yet to taste defeat so far.

Olivier Giroud was a scorer on the night, as Chelsea defeated Newcastle 2-0, and the World Cup has hailed the impact of the new boss.

According to Giroud, the team’s understanding has improved and the players feel more confident on the pitch.

Giroud said after the game: “We need to keep it up and carry on like that. We are doing well obviously and try to play with our game intentions.

“The manager wants us to play in a certain way and we just keep doing it in training and try to do it again in the game.

“We feel very good, very comfortable on the pitch and have a good understanding, but there is always room for improvement, so we want to carry on doing that.

“It’s good to be in the top four now. We are aiming to stay there and keep going.”

Giroud was then asked what Chelsea did well in the win over Newcastle, and he responded: “We started well again with great intentions to play between the lines.

“We created quite a lot of chances, could have put the game to bed before, but we are very pleased with the clean sheet and we carry on our good work.”
