Thomas Tuchel has started out his Chelsea reign in good form, as the Blues are not only getting the wins but are also tight at the back.
However, despite the introduction of a new manager, summer signing Timo Werner is still continuing his goal drought.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that Werner will come good at the end, although he believes that he’d need the help of his teammates.
Paul Merson thinks the Chelsea players are too safe with their passes and don’t seem to find Werner when he makes those runs. He also urged Werner not to get frustrated, but to still keep making those runs in behind.
“Timo Werner needs one to go in off his backside and if one does, I really believe he’ll go on a run of nine in nine,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“He just needs one to go in and then the goals will start to fly in. Watching Chelsea at the weekend, he was making some unbelievable runs but the way they’re set up to play at the moment, they’re not looking for him. They’re not looking for those runs.
“They’re playing short passes to get Mason Mount in the hole and I feel that’s the problem. What they’ve got to work on next is getting Werner the ball as he was making some great runs.
“They were playing the safe ball too many times, but as long as he’s not getting frustrated and keeps on doing it, in times it’ll work. At the moment, Tuchel is just trying to do things one step at a time. He’s getting the back three sorted to stop letting in goals.
“He has got them tight at the back and is steadily going about his job.”
