Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp has revealed he urged his nephew and former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard to sign Manchester City defender John Stones.
Stones appeared on the verge of leaving City after dropping down the pecking order under Pep Guardiola but the 26-year-old has become a key player for Manchester City this season.
Redknapp said: “They’re fantastic aren’t they and John Stones… what a comeback.
“I text Frank at the start of the year but they’d already made a signing at Chelsea. I said, ‘What about him, John Stones?’
“I think he’s a real talent. Someone just had to get hold of him again and get him playing and believing in himself.
“And he’s come back now and he looks the best centre-half around. He’s in fantastic form.”
