Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger heaped praise on Mason Mount after the 2-0 win over Newcastle.
Chelsea didn’t let the Magpies rest on the ball, as the Blues won the ball high up the pitch and pressed Newcastle hard, each time they had the ball.
According to Statsbomb data (via FBref), Chelsea have attempted 31.4 pressures in the final third per game this season — the sixth-highest in the Premier League.
Chelsea’s high press system has even evolved further under Thomas Tuchel, as the German boss demands that Chelsea win back the ball quickly.
After the Newcastle victory, Rudiger was full of praise for Mason Mount, as he highlighted his ability to press from high up, labelling him as the master of pressing.
“Yeah, I think the master of this [is] Mason Mount — he does really great work off the ball,” the centre-back told Chelsea TV.
“Timo [Werner] also did well, and Tammy [as well] who unluckily got injured and had to be subbed off early.
“Oli [Giroud] came in and also did great work.
“I think it works well for us [that our] defending starts up front.”
