Hakim Ziyech looked frustrated as he slowly walked to the touchline to be substituted by Chelsea youngster Tino Anjorin in the 69th minute.
The Moroccan international had hoped to impress new Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel against Barnsley but left the pitch frustrated after a poor performance against the Championship side.
So how poor was Ziyech’s performance against Barnsley?
Ziyech lost possession 25 times against Barnsley, the most by any Chelsea player. Chelsea needed technical players like Ziyech to keep hold of the ball and help the team control the game against an aggressive Barnsley team but instead Ziyech kept giving the ball away.
Ziyech was involved in 10 duels and failed to win any. Not one tackle, interception or clearance was made by the Moroccan international.
Despite his poor performance against Barnsley, Ziyech registered the most crosses (4), the most good crosses (2), the most open play crosses (2) and the most key passes (2) of those wearing a Chelsea shirt.
However, all of Ziyech’s good work against Barnsley was in the first half. He struggled as each minute ticked away and as expected was substituted by Tuchel.
We know there’s quality in there and we hope to see it regularly.
