Manchester City are currently top of the league, and Pep Guardiola’s side seem like they will run away with the title this season. Manchester United are second in the league and five points behind City who played a game less. In third position is Leicester City who are two points behind United. Liverpool and Chelsea occupy 4th and 5th positions respectively, with one point separating the two.
Chelsea legend Pat Nevin made a striking observation about the current top 5, as they are the clubs to have won the league over the past 15 years. Nevin however still warns that the table is bound to change before the end of the season.
Nevin wrote in his column for the official Chelsea website: “A look at the top five right now has an awfully familiar feel about it with Man City, Man Utd, Leicester and Liverpool alongside us in the top spots. It looks familiar because those are the only clubs that have won Premier League titles in the past 15 seasons.
“Even so, it is still an odd season and that could change, and almost certainly will, over the next few weeks and months. The fact there are still more away wins than home wins this season in the entirety of the Premier League tells you this is still weird. We all watched Leicester City looking brilliant against us recently, but I was at their game against Wolves at the weekend and they looked much more like a decidedly mid-table outfit.”
He added: “That is what to keep in mind at the moment, everything can change almost in an instant.”
