The first half of the season has come and gone, and it was one with mixed feelings, as Chelsea had to let go of club legend Frank Lampard.
It hasn’t been an easy season so far, but there was a time this season when Chelsea was cruising. The Blues qualified as tops from their Champions League group and were even top of the league after beating Leeds United back in December.
The first half didn’t end well as five losses in eight games ensured the end of Frank Lampard’s reign in charge of the club.
However, Thomas Tuchel’s reign in the second half of the season has started out well, and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva is proud of the quality of the team as well as the motivation, revealing that it gives him hope.
“What gives me hope and motivates me, above all else, is my belief in this group, in the potential of this team,” he said.
“Right now, the motivation is huge to ensure that the second half of the season is a different story to the first, with more success and more wins. So that, by the end of the campaign, we’ll achieve that aim of being in the fight for silverware – whether in the Champions League or the Premier League.
“That may seem a long way off, but if we don’t believe in ourselves, we won’t get anywhere. So it’s all about focusing on our work, focusing on our self-belief and continuing to work hard.”
