Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi is reaping the benefits of a new manager, as he’s now one of the first names in the starting sheet for Chelsea.

Under Frank Lampard, the 20-year-old was viewed as an emerging talent, with the former boss giving him minutes gradually. He was even behind the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Christian Pulisic and Timo Werner on the flanks. But it hasn’t been the case with Thomas Tuchel. The German boss came in and thrust Hudson-Odoi straight into the first team, with three starting appearances and one substitute appearance in his first four games in charge.

The likes of Hakim Ziyech and Christian Pulisic have had reduced game time under Pulisic.

It now seems that Tuchel and Hudson-Odoi have a father-son relationship, as the German gaffer has been seen barking out instructions oftentimes to the young winger. At the end of the game against Sheffield United, the relationship was more evident as Tuchel grabbed the young winger under his arms, with Hudson-Odoi laughing in return as they chatted their way into the tunnel.

It’s not a surprising thing to note that Hudson-Odoi’s reputation in Germany is very high, and Bayern Munich have strongly chased the Chelsea academy product in the past.

It hasn’t just been the Munich club, Tuchel himself has admitted that he has been following Hudson-Odoi for a long time now.

“Of course we knew him [Hudson-Odoi] — there were big rumours about his [potentially] joining Bayern Munich all the time,” Tuchel had said in a previous post-match press conference.

“Even before that — because we are interested in football and in upcoming players.

“So he was already in focus even before I even thought of being his manager.”

Hopefully, the 20-year-old winger can be transformed into a world-class player under Tuchel’s guidance. We can only hope for the best.
