Hakim Ziyech was one of the most exciting players in Europe during his time at Ajax, and after a brilliant display against Chelsea in the Champions League last season, the club decided to sign him.

Injuries and a lack of consistency have both combined to slow down Ziyech’s Chelsea form. Under former boss Frank Lampard, Ziyech at some point was having a blast on the right flank and formed a good relationship with Reece James.

Under new boss Thomas Tuchel, the German has fielded a 3-4-2-1 system, and many of Chelsea’s star players don’t seem well suited to the system.

Ziyech seems to be one of the players not really suited to Thomas Tuchel’s 3-4-2-1 formation, or so the manager feels. The 27-year-old has featured in only one of Tuchel’s four games, and Tuchel had revealed after the win against Burnley that the Moroccan needed a bit of rest. However, he didn’t also feature in consecutive games against Tottenham and Sheffield United.

Ziyech isn’t known for his work rate, and this could be one of the reasons he’s yet to win over the new boss. The Moroccan international thrives more when he’s out wide, but under Tuchel, the wing-backs provide the width for the team.

The Chelsea team have been getting the points under Tuchel, with 10 points from a possible 12 since his appointment. So, all Ziyech can do is fight and prove to the manager that he can play in whatsoever role he’s told. Also, Ziyech must be ready to adapt, work hard and fight for his shirt.

Maybe, the lesser games played of late could be beneficial for Ziyech. In December, he suffered thigh problems which ruled him out of action for over four games, before returning to action in January 2021. Before then, he suffered a knee injury against Brighton & Hove Albion in pre-season.

Can Ziyech bounce back? He surely can.

Chelsea is more than just a football club to me; it's a passion I share, and my affinity with the Chelsea badge is one that will last forever. As far as watching my favourite team is concerned, I'd rather miss a meal than miss a Chelsea game.
