Chelsea will be away to Barnsley at the Oakland Stadium on Thursday night, for our FA Cup fifth round tie.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has vowed to give playing time to members of his squad who haven’t seen enough minutes, as he hopes to see the strength of his squad.
However, the German gaffer would have loved for Timo Werner to have a run in this game and get a goal, but the 24-year-old has been ruled out of action until our game against Newcastle on Monday night.
Werner collided with Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale on Thursday and hasn’t fully recovered from the collision.
“It’s still painful with contact, so we took him out of the training when we did some small-sided games,” Tuchel told Chelsea’s official website.
“We didn’t risk it, and we will not risk it against Barnsley.
“He had a huge impact in our recent games so that’s why we’re a bit sad.
“Because it would have been possible to keep him in this momentum and give him another chance to maybe find the net.
“But it’s good for him now to recover and hopefully be back on Monday.”
