Injury has never allowed Ruben Loftus-Cheek reach the heights that his talents deserve. The 24-year-old’s career has had so many pauses that he hasn’t really been able to string too many games in a row for a single season.
At his best, Loftus-Cheek has the makings of a world-class player, and we saw this towards the end of Maurizio Sarri’s term as Chelsea boss. Unfortunately, he got injured in what Sarri termed as a needless game against New England Revolution, just before the 2019 Europa League final.
Sent out to rediscover his form on loan to Fulham, Loftus-Cheek is now beginning to make huge improvements. Fulham boss Scott Parker is featuring him week in week out, and hailed him as a top player before their 2-0 victory over Everton.
“Over the last seven or eight games I think Ruben’s come out of the other side of settling in,” Scott Parker said ahead of Fulham’s game against Everton.
“He’s taken everything on board. He’s so open to wanting to get better and holds on to every word, and that gives him every chance.
“When he came here, he was out for a long time with an injury. But certainly, now you’re seeing a top, top class player.”
Former Chelsea boss Frank Lampard obviously thought highly of Loftus-Cheek before sending him out on loan. But the big question now is: will he get a chance under the new boss next season?
