Willy Caballero used to be second choice goalkeeper at the club as he played back up to Kepa Arrizabalaga, but the signing of Edouard Mendy has made him third choice at the club.
Caballero who’s yet to feature under Thomas Tuchel has hailed the club’s decision to sign Edouard Mendy, even though he wasn’t a big money signing.
Caballero, who has seen Mendy first hand not only in games but also in training, has admitted that the Senegal international is a top goalkeeper.
“Mendy was an unknown for the Premier League, but that’s what happens with goalkeepers who are in other leagues,” Caballero told 90min.
“Sometimes they are not appreciated because they put quotation marks around the leagues.
“You have to take your hat off to Chelsea because they were right to go for him and not for another big name in the transfer market.
“He is almost two-metre tall, very big, very fast, and with a lot of explosiveness.
“He is getting more confident and is playing better and better with his feet, because the football that Tuchel wants requires it.
“If the team moves up in the table, he will be one of the big players to watch out for.”
