England boss Gareth Southgate has suggested a bias in judgement over Mason Mount.

The England boss sees Mount as one of his key players, same with Frank Lampard, and it was the former Chelsea boss who gave Mount the opportunity to shine and also trusted him with enough minutes, as Mount ended last season with the most appearances at the club.

Mount was in fine form for England as they defeated Albania and he scored the second goal.

Many feared that Mount will lose his place under Thomas Tuchel, but the German boss also sees Mount as a very important player for him.

Meanwhile, Southgate has moved to suggest that there’s a bias and hypocrisy with the two managers judgement regarding Mason Mount.

Speaking after Sunday’s win in Tirana, Southgate said of Mount: “He is a great player, but I was saying this in the autumn. I suppose now that Thomas Tuchel picks him, everybody will agree. When it was Frank, it doesn’t count for some reason.

“He is an exceptional player. He finds space intelligently, he manipulates the ball very well, he creates chances and he can score goals. I thought his performance was excellent tonight.”
