After a fine start to the season under Frank Lampard, which saw the Blues heading towards a title race, Chelsea then experienced a slump and was around the midtable in the league before Lampard was axed from his job.
Since the appointment of Thomas Tuchel, things have improved for Chelsea who are now 4th in the league. In fact, the improvement was instant, as Chelsea are yet to lose a game under the German.
Former Chelsea right-back Glen Johnson has slammed the Chelsea players for not doing enough under Lampard, and believes that the sudden improvement under Tuchel is very suspicious, claiming that they didn’t want to play for the manager.
“When Tuchel first came in, Chelsea were beating teams that they should have been beating, but now they’ve shown they can beat Tottenham, Everton and got a good result against Manchester United,” Johnson told CheltenhamGuides.com.
“I think that Lampard could have done a similar job, it’s just a shame and a problem for the players, how can they perform like this for the new manager but they couldn’t for Lampard?
“So the players have to look at themselves. But that said, right now the appointment looks good because they’re absolutely flying.”
