Summer signing Ben Chilwell has since been dropped by new boss Thomas Tuchel, since his appointment in January.
Chilwell was a key player under Frank Lampard, while Marcos Alonso was seemingly out of the team and was on his way out of Chelsea.
For his first game in charge against Wolves, Tuchel dropped Chilwell to the bench in favour of Alonso, and Alonso has been his first choice left wing-back.
However, a report by The Athletic claims that the decision ‘didn’t come as a surprise’ to Chilwell as he recognised his form had dropped off before Frank Lampard’s dismissal.
Alonso has only missed two of Chelsea’s games in all competitions, since Tuchel’s appointment, and Chilwell understands that he must be back to his best to win his place.
Chilwell had reportedly accepted Tuchel’s decision, and recognised Marcos Alonso’s qualities and acknowledged that the Spaniard also deserved a chance to prove himself again.
The report further adds that Chilwell has never complained about the decision of Thomas Tuchel, but has rather vowed to win back his place. The 23-year-old has an eye on this summer’s Euro Championship, with Luke Shaw in top form for Manchester United.
