It was a massive win for Chelsea, and it was also well deserved as the players were very impressive on the pitch.

Mendy: May not have had anything to do in the game, but he did all he had to do to keep the defence safe.

He was quick off his line to stop any potential Liverpool attack, and was calm with the ball at his feet. His distribution was really good and he was just calm in goal, collecting crosses with ease. 7/10

Azpilicueta: Continued in his role at the right side of defence and was very solid. He has formed a good partnership with Christensen and Rudiger, and it was evident again on the night. 7/10

Christensen: He has ensured that we do not miss a certain Thiago Silva. The Dane has been very impressive in the centre of the back three and was just too brilliant against Mane and Liverpool’s attacks. Calm on the ball and made the right decisions. His positioning with and without the ball was excellent. 9/10

Rudiger: Kept Salah very quiet all game and when Mane was moved to his position, he didn’t give the Senegal international any room. He enjoyed his duel with Mane and made sure that the dangerous Liverpool forward was held at bay. 8/10

Reece James: He started in the right wing-back position, in a role where Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel wanted a more defensive shift. He did well against Mane in the first half, and ensured the right flank was solid. 7/10

Chilwell: Started in place of Marcos Alonso, as Tuchel wanted pace on the flanks. Very good performance from the 23-year-old. He did very well defensively and his overlapping runs were timely as well. 7/10

Kante: Started yet again and was paired with Jorginho this time around in the middle of the park. His crossfield pass to Mount for the goal, is one that the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Xavi will be proud of. His energy in the middle of the park enabled Chelsea counter any form of Liverpool pressure from midfield. 9/10

Jorginho: Helped Chelsea pass out effectively from the back as he tried to dictate play in the first half. His pass for Timo Werner’s goal which was ruled offside, was superb. In the second half, he had to do the defensive work as well, and he did well. 8/10

Ziyech: Wasn’t a constant figure during the game, but he looked like a threat whenever he had the ball. Laid in one very nice pass for Werner which wasn’t utilised. His best performance since Tuchel took charge of the club. It must be noted that the Chelsea attack dropped momentum after he was subbed off for Pulisic. 6/10

Mount: Worked hard, was great on the ball and also scored a fantastic goal. 9/10

Werner: It’s one of those games where even if he didn’t get on the scoresheet, you’d still give him a good rating. Unlucky to have his goal ruled out for offside. Had a good game and was a constant threat to Liverpool’s timid backline. 8/10

Subs

Pulisic: Came on for Ziyech after 65 minutes, to use his pace and cause problems to the Liverpool defence. It didn’t really work out for him as he didn’t see much of the ball. 5/10

Kovacic: Brought on for Mason Mount for the final 15 minutes of the game, to help see out the lead. 6/10

Kai Havertz: 90 minute sub for Timo Werner.
