Chelsea defender Reece James has had to take off his Instagram account, after receiving racist abuse from fans on social media.

According to The Telegraph, the Chelsea right-back appears to be disappointed with the platform’s efforts to combat racist abuse.

Back in January, Reece James voiced his displeasure when he shared screenshots of racist abuse he got on social media.

‘Something needs to change,’ was Reece James message on the social media platform, and with nothing done by the social media platform, apparently he is still not satisfied with their actions.

“It’s terrible that it obviously still happens and I receive the messages that I received,” Reece James recently told beIN Sports about the racial abuse he got on social media.

“It made me very upset and angry when I got them, and I think we can do a lot more to help put an end to it.

“I think media platforms can do more. When anything happens, they should be able to help track the person and go from there.

“I think more people are getting racist abuse and it only makes sense to put a stop to it and the people that are capable of doing that, I think they should take action.

“The people that are affecting lives, they should be named and punished as well.”
