One thing Chelsea fans crave for are midfielders who can shoot from a distance. Most of Chelsea goals come in the box, and Mason Mount is probably the only player in the team who can take a strike from distance.
In the past, the Blues have been blessed with lots of shooting stars in midfield. A certain Chelsea team had the likes of Michael Ballack, Michael Essien and Frank Lampard who could shoot from a distance, and even centre-back Alex could take a whip from a very long distance. Forward players like Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda were also gifted in this area, and we won’t also forget defenders like David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic.
Raul Meireles and Oscar are also good players with powerful shots in their body.
The Chelsea team in recent years have focused more on flair, and this has translated to less shooting.
Chelsea midfield duo of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante are among the least shot takers in the team, and the pair don’t just like to shoot.
According to stats website FBRef, Jorginho and Kante have just 0.4 shots per 90 minutes this season. Anytime the duo are paired together in central midfield, we average 80% of a single shot from both combined each game. This explains why Chelsea don’t shoot often.
Meanwhile, Andreas Christensen is one Chelsea player who hates to shoot. The Dane averages a shot ratio of 0.2 per 90 minutes, meaning he takes just one shot every 5 games.
Christensen is yet to score for Chelsea, and this could just explain why.
