Timo Werner seems to be the main forward for Thomas Tuchel, but the German international can’t seem to find his goalscoring touch at the club.
Tammy Abraham was a key player for Chelsea under former boss Frank Lampard, and he was the highest goalscorer last season for the club.
Timo Werner has scored 10 goals in 37 games for Chelsea, with 5 goals in 27 Premier League games, which is a poor feat for a player of his calibre. Meanwhile, Tammy Abraham has a better record with fewer games played. The academy product has scored 6 goals in 20 Premier League games and 12 goals in 30 Chelsea appearances this season.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson is surprised at Tammy Abraham’s lack of chances and maintains that the England international will score more goals than Timo Werner.
“I would have Tammy Abraham to score more goals than Timo Werner,” Merson told Sky Sports. “I would, there is no doubt about that.
“There is a lot of work to be done with this lad [Werner]. I know he has been brought in at 24 years of age for all that money. I have watched loads of him there and there is loads of stuff with him in and he is nowhere near the finished article, not even close.
“There are times when he will go down the wing and cross the ball into the box when there is literally nobody in there.”
Merson continued: “But if you said to me: ‘Who is going to score the most goals?’, I would say Tammy Abraham.
“Abraham is a goalscorer and I don’t think this lad looks like a goalscorer.”
