Thiago Silva was like a coach against Atletico Madrid, and the Brazilian lived every moment with the Chelsea players despite not being on the pitch for the game against the Spanish side.
The 36-year-old stood in the stands, shouting at his teammates and was an animated figure all through the game.
The Brazil veteran went wild in celebration when Emerson’s late goal went into the net, as he rushed up the Stamford Bridge steps to hug team-mates Mason Mount and Jorginho – who missed the match through suspension, and were also watching from the stands.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was pleased with the support of the players from the stands and he hailed the unity of the team as well.
Tuchel told Chelsea TV: “Yeah, he should be on the pitch but at least he gives support from the stands.
“In the end it’s like this, if you want a special result you need a special atmosphere. You need a special approach and the group has to be strong and this will never be different when you reach the highest level in football.
“This will never change in no division or in no game of football, if you have a special bond you can achieve special moments.
“If you have the special moments that makes the bond closer and tighter, this is it. We have a little bit of luck, we’re super strong, we forced it, we never gave in, this is very impressive.”
