We saw the best of Christian Pulisic in a Chelsea shirt last season, as he was Chelsea’s star man after the restart.
However, the American has struggled under new boss Thomas Tuchel. He has rarely been started in games, and even when he has, he has struggled.
Pulisic got his first league start under Tuchel in the goalless draw against Leeds United, and the 22-year-old was deployed in a rather unfamiliar right wing-back role.
Chelsea legend Frank Leboeuf believes that the manager’s 3-4-2-1 system is limiting Pulisic, claiming that Pulisic is better playing out wide on the left flank.
“It was interesting to see Pulisic,” he told ESPN FC. “But he played on the right which I think is the wrong side because he’s mostly a guy who can start the action from the left, being right-footed.
“[On the left], he can get add pace into the game and shoot with his right foot — then maybe you can find him useful.
“But on the right, he’s completely useless for me, and he didn’t show more because of that position, except for giving crosses.
“I’m very disappointed with the way they [Chelsea attackers] played. For me, the [actions in the] last third of the pitch was horrendous from Chelsea.”
