Christian Pulisic initially struggled in his first season at Chelsea, as he had a difficult first half spell under Frank Lampard before a very explosive spell in the second half.
Pulisic was Chelsea’s best player in the second half of last season, and he put in eye-catching displays against Liverpool and Manchester City. He ended up scoring 11 times in 34 games last season.
US head coach Gregg Berhalter has likened Pulisic to Chelsea’s summer signing Timo Werner, and he believes Captain America has had a better impact that the German who has also struggled to adapt to the Premier League in his first season.
“Regarding Christian, I think he’s done a great job at Chelsea,” Gregg Berhalter told a press conference about Christian Pulisic.
“First, embracing the challenge of coming to terms with the Premier League. You see, players like [Timo] Werner who has difficulties adapting from the Bundesliga to the Premier League.
“You could see it takes a toll on players, they have to adapt — and I think he [Pulisic] has done a good job adapting.
“Now with the new manager’s coming in, he’s finding his footing again, he had a really strong weekend before he came into camp. And we expect him to continue to push on,” he added.
“He’s a quality player who can make the difference in the attacking third and I can see him getting more minutes as the season unfolds.”
