Chelsea have a very large squad, and Thomas Tuchel has often had to rotate between players to keep everyone fresh.
Chelsea are still being linked with a move for new players, but this will mean some players may have to leave to create room for others.
In Thomas Tuchel’s three at the back system, the Blues manager has five options for his centre-backs — Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva (who’s expected to sign an extension for one more year), Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma.
Christensen has had a fair amount of games under Tuchel, and the Dane has impressed massively, even when Thiago Silva was out for two months.
Christensen’s contract with the club will run out in the summer of 2022, and so far talks haven’t begun for a new deal.
The 24-year-old has shown that he can be a top player under Tuchel, and he has revealed that Chelsea is home to him and he’d love to sign a new contract.
“I’ve shown that I’m here for the long run,” said the defender. “I’ve been here almost nine, 10 years now.
“I’ve never doubted my decision [to come to Chelsea] and I’ve always been here for the long run. I accept that the club sometimes changes managers, and that can make it hard to always be in the team.
“After the loan spell [at Borussia Monchengladbach] I came back and played a good amount and since then it’s been a bit in and out, but it’s nice at the moment to play back-to-back games and my confidence is growing with each game.
“There have not been any talks [on a contract extension] yet, but like I said, I’m in this for the long run and I always have been. I feel like this is my second home. Denmark will always be my home, but Chelsea will always be my place.”
